'Black Swan' Opening Credits

Here is an example of opening film credits from a similar genre film 'Black Swan'. Above, I have colour coded specific timed credits and given possible examples on what font could be used in our short film opening credits that are similar to 'Black Swan'.

Filming Dates Arranged

Saturday 7th December 2013 and Sunday 8th December 2013 are the decided dates for filming our short film 'When We Wake'. We are planning to film around 10.00am every morning and finish filming around 5.00pm. Mrs.Stone has informed the class that the filming deadline for all shots to be completed is beginning of next term.

New Ideas For Short Film 'When We Wake'

As a group we have decided now to focus more on the cinematography and the use of the surrounding area to present the narrative. Our main objective within our short film is to show the after math of the post apocalyptic state our main character's mind keeps entering and falling back out of again.

We have decided to still use the shot of the decaying apples behind the film title 'When We Wake' but instead of this shot being at the beginning, we are going to use it to conclude the film altogether.

As you can see, using the original black and white image below, I have created the potential ending shot for our short film. The idea of the title fading from black to a light beige, shows the idea of danger and nothingness dominating any chance of a future is represented through the ordering of colours black over the lighter colour (negativity over positivity).

Potential short film opening - 'When We Wake'

Here is a shot of the potential opening for our short film 'When We Wake'. The idea of humanity dying off is represented through the apples that lay on the ground. The apples the spectator will see within the opening are not ripe and whole, they are decaying and dead. This supports the idea that humanity once was ripe and living before the apocalypse and as more people die, life decays into nothing.

Filming Location Shots - Explained

Here are some example shots below of the filming location, Chandler and Dunn Farm, which is being used in the opening sequence of 'When We Wake'. The coloured shot is of the woods which we are planning to film in. The reason I have chosen to use this shot is to show how the use of the natural light from the sun seeping through the tops of the trees helps towards building the atmosphere we are trying to achieve within our filming. Having not entirely full light contributes to the idea of fearing the unknown due to not being able to see everything clearly.

Moreover, I wanted to show how the colours of the settings are autumnal and give a better visual effect to the overall cinematography of the short film; moss greens, tree bark browns and amber/light brown leaves on the ground add to the feeling of the characters being outdoors as these are colours and objects that you would see when in the outdoors.

Whereas, within the black and white shot, I wanted to show the surrounding environment we are working in as well as see what the film cinematography could look like with a black and white effect.

Filming Location Shots - Chandler and Dunn Farm

Character clothing for 'When We Wake'

Here is the character clothing for my character 'Lucy'. After establishing where 'When We Wake' is due to be filmed (Chandler and Dunn woods and farm) my group and I realised that to make the narrative and character's seem more believable, the clothing worn had to fit in with the colours of the surroundings within the film; the theme of 'nature' had to apply to what my character would be wearing if outdoors majority of the time. For example, my group and I chose my character to wear a black raincoat (to keep dry yet unnoticeable in darker locations and lighting) and a khaki green t-shirt which blends into the colours of the woods (light and dark greens and browns)

Furthermore, the shoes wore by my character 'Lucy' will be brown Caterpillar steel toe boots. This gives the spectator a better understanding into the idea of my character having to walk miles through woods and forest whilst being comfortable.

Simply through the mise-en-scene of 'When We Wake' such as character clothing and location, we are able to present in the opening sequence how much time and consideration has been put into the overall production.
