Introduction for Preliminary Task
As part of our overall AS- Level grade, my group and I were required to complete a preliminary task . This task requires my group and I to film and edit our own film independently following the code and conventions of our chosen genre. As well as this, our final product has to contain match on action, shot/reverse shot, 180 degree rule and narrative continuity. My group and I decided our narrative is to follow a potential employees job interview. The interview will be for a English Teaching job within a secondary school; yet the only problem is, the potential employee is German and does not speak a word of English. This is comical as it is ironic and the protagonist is unaware of his flaw within the situation.
Feedback
Positive feedback
The plot within our narrative was well scripted and our audience was able to easily understand the events that were going on.
The use of over-the-shoulder shots, high angle shots and low angle shots were clear and concise
Our film followed the necessary codes and conventions of the comedy genre for our film to be comical.
Negative feedback
We did not take into consideration the use of the 180 degree rule within our filming
The transitions between each individual shot were too abrupt
Editing between each shot could have been clearer
The confrontation shot containing Dean Fisher and Georg Fritz wasn't a precise camera angle; the angling used did not fit in with the other shots used within the film.
Evaluation
Next time when filming, the 180 degree angle will be taken into consideration, editing between each shot will be clear and will flow along the same as the dialect in the conversation and the confrontation scene will be a medium close-up of both protagonists allowing the spectator to read the characters facial expressions clearly.
