Here is the link to a rough copy of our comedic genre production, 'New Term'.
The current quality of the video provided on George Fritz's blog is at 240p but
the final edit will be at 1080p/ 720p quality overall. After reviewing the
rough edit, I have taken notes on the positives and negatives. Allowing to
reflect on what the rough edit has to offer means that my group and I can use
our observational skills to identify what does not and does follow the codes
and conventions of the comedy genre.
The end shot (featuring the final film title design) states that the production
is a ‘Georg Fritz Production’. This implies that the overall amount of
development including editing, filming and sound has been entirely completed by
one individual rather than a group effort. In order to correct this mistake, my
group and I will simply discuss if we should have a production company name and
if so, what it shall be. Due to the film itself following the codes and
conventions of the comedy genre, it would effective if the production company
name was comical as well.
For example, ‘The Inbetweeners Movie’ was co-produced
by Bwark TV. This informal company name shares the same level of formality as the
film. Moreover, this is a memorable name as it’s an onomatopoeia for the noise
a chicken which has no relation to film.
Also, two of the medium shots (one containing Georg, the other containing Dean)
needs trimming on the left side in order for the film’s shots to flow fluently
without jump cut shots.
The reason we do not intend on using any jump cuts
within the film, is due to the film being set in one location as well as
following an interview between potential student and Head of Sixth Form.
Therefore, in order to make what the audience is witnessing seem realistic and
relatable, the film will follow mostly shot reverse shots and the 180 degree
rule.
The subtitles at the bottom of Georg’s shots (when he is talking German to the
Head of Sixth Form) need to be more concise and equal in font size. This is
because the irregularity of font size and subtitle placement in the shot, will
be the dominant aspect within the scene and rather than the spectator noticing
the characters facial expressions and the progression of narrative, they will
ultimately be focussing on the uneven lettering.
This particular edit has given my group and I the opportunity to experiment with the use of split screen. Using the split screen means that it makes the introduction of each protagonsit less tediuos and to the point. Furthermore, it allows the audience to compare the physical diefferences between each individual as well.
